Nikola Vitas: I am a solar physicist currently working at Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias. My main research interest is radiative transfer in the solar atmosphere, but also in the atmospheres of other stars and planets (including the Earth). The picture in the background shows the continuum image computed from a snapshot of magnetoconvection simulation with unipolar magnetic field. The mean intensity is about 200 G typical for a plage region. The simulation is performed using the MURaM code (Vögler, 2003). More details are available in my paper on the activity sensitivity of the MnI 5394.7 A line in the solar spectrum (Vitas et al, 2009).
